Look at this, another project in Spain! This time, it is a public building for the elderly in Actur district, Zaragoza, Spain. Santiago Carroquino Larraz's building combines the elderly centre with a library. Looking closely, many sustainable bioclimatic interventions are being used for this prefabricated building. A solar heating system, ventilated facade, woodwork with thermal bridge breaks and solar shading systems are integrated in the structure. The 3 levels including a basement are kept light and airy by a central courtyard providing natural daylight deep into the belly of the building. All the rooms occupied for the elderly are located on the ground level to increase access meanwhile the library is on the North side of the building to ensure more lighting for easy research/reading. The new library is positioned on the north side of the building ensuring appropriate illumination to its rooms.
