Before you people think that I am ignorant in Geography, let me tell you that I know the difference between Poland and Slovenia. As part of my cultural studies, I am learning Polish hence why I am writing the title in the chosen language. Anyway, in a village in near Ljubljana, Slovenia, on a site next to an existing graveyard sits Farewell Chapel. OFIS Architects have built the chapel into the landscape with its shape following the contour lines of the graveyard’s landscape. The building is separated into several sections by 3 curved walls meanwhile; an external curve wall divides the surrounding landscape from the chapel plateau reinstating the main supporting wall. Viewers will notice a cross shaped roof light positioned above the main space to act as a 'luminous dynamic element’ in the daytime and a ‘light spark’ at night. The Architects have extended the curvature of the roof to create a porch for the visitors.
